Most of us spend years trying to think our way through life's challenges.
We analyse.
We problem-solve.
We try to understand why we feel the way we do.
Yet even when we understand our story, our body can continue carrying the effects of stress, trauma, anxiety, or overwhelm.
Somatic Therapy gently shifts our attention from only asking "What happened?" to also wondering,
"What is happening inside me right now?"
Healing often begins when we become curious about the messages our body has been communicating all along.
Our nervous system can continue carrying the effects of experiences long after they've ended.
You may notice:
These are not signs that something is wrong with you.
They are often signs that your nervous system has been working hard to protect you.
Somatic Therapy helps us become aware of these patterns with curiosity rather than judgment.
You don't need to know how to listen to your body before starting therapy. Learning to notice what your body communicates is something we discover together at a pace that feels safe for you.

Somatic Therapy is a body-based approach to psychotherapy that helps you reconnect with your nervous system, emotions, and physical sensations.
Rather than focusing only on thoughts, we also pay attention to physical sensations, breathing, posture, movement, and the subtle ways your body responds throughout our conversations.
This isn't about analysing your body.
It's about learning to listen to it.
Often, your body understands something before your mind can explain it.
Somatic Therapy is woven naturally throughout my work.
Sometimes this may include noticing:
These observations aren't made to interpret your experience for you.
Instead, they create opportunities for deeper curiosity and understanding.
Together, we explore what your nervous system may be communicating and what it needs in order to feel safer and more regulated.
Clients often tell me:
"I never realized how disconnected I'd become from my body."
"For the first time I noticed what anxiety actually feels like inside me."
"I finally understand why I react the way I do."
"I feel calmer without forcing myself to relax."
Healing doesn't always happen through dramatic breakthroughs.
Often it begins with noticing small shifts that gradually create lasting change.
For me, somatic therapy isn't about adding another technique to psychotherapy. It's about recognizing that our bodies often hold experiences our minds haven't fully processed.
Throughout my career, I've seen that lasting change rarely comes from insight alone. When we begin noticing what is happening within the body, our nervous system has the opportunity to experience something different.
My background in yoga therapy, Compassionate Inquiry®, and psychotherapy has continually reinforced one simple truth: healing involves both the mind and the body.
Somatic therapy has become one of the foundations of my work because it gently invites us to slow down, listen, and reconnect with ourselves in a way that feels safe, compassionate, and deeply human.

Somatic Therapy may be helpful if you're experiencing:
Some people immediately notice sensations in their bodies.
Others have spent years feeling disconnected from it.
Both are completely okay.
Somatic therapy isn't about doing it "right."
It's about gradually becoming curious about what your body has been communicating all along.
We'll move at a pace that honours your nervous system, your lived experience, and what feels safe for you.
Will I be asked to move or do yoga?
No.
Somatic Therapy can be incredibly gentle.
Many sessions involve simply noticing breathing, sensations, emotions, or nervous system responses while we talk.
Do I have to close my eyes?
No.
Everything we do is collaborative.
You always choose what feels comfortable.
What if I don't notice anything in my body?
That's completely okay.
Many people begin therapy feeling disconnected from their body.
Learning to notice happens gradually and at a pace that feels safe.
Is Somatic Therapy evidence-informed?
Yes.
Research continues to demonstrate the important role the nervous system and body play in healing from trauma, anxiety, nervous system dysregulation, and chronic stress.
I integrate somatic therapy alongside other approaches depending on your needs, goals, and what unfolds during therapy.
