Welcome! I’m Michelle, a passionate and dedicated counsellor, psychotherapist, and yoga therapist specializing in substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, and complex post-traumatic stress disorders (C-PTSD). My mission is to create a safe and nurturing space where you can relax, connect, and let your defences down.
With kindness, empathy, strength, intelligence, and insight, I strive to help you navigate your journey toward inner peace and personal growth. Witnessing my clients blossom and reach their full potential is what drives my practice. I am committed to bringing big-city concepts to small-town Ontario, ensuring that mental health support is accessible to everyone.
My journey into the world of healing began in my early 20s when I witnessed the profound impact of blending Eastern spiritual practices with Western psychology. This transformative experience shaped my approach to therapy, allowing me to integrate diverse practices, philosophies, and theoretical perspectives to offer a truly individualized healing experience.
I believe in the power of an evidence-based approach that is also spiritually aligned. My clients benefit from unique opportunities to learn, grow, heal, and reconnect with themselves in a holistic manner.
As a Registered Psychotherapist, Compassionate Inquiry Practitioner and Facilitator, Canadian Certified Counsellor, and Yoga Therapist, I wear many hats in my pursuit of providing comprehensive mental health care. I aim to empower you with the tools and insights needed to overcome challenges and live a fulfilling life.
Thank you for considering me as your partner on this journey. Together, we can explore the path to healing and transformation.
My journey toward becoming a psychotherapist began in 2005 when my life was in turmoil. Faced with the choice of continuing in ignorance or awakening to live consciously, I sought the guidance of a spiritual psychotherapist. This pivotal moment introduced me to the healing practices of Buddhism and Reiki, igniting my path to personal healing.
After earning my degree in Sociology, I pursued a Post-Graduate Diploma in Addiction Counselling, where I gained valuable insights into mental health and addiction treatment. During this time, I began collaborating with N.D. Sat Dharam Kaur, who introduced me to the transformative power of Kundalini Yoga.
The practice of yoga significantly changed my life. My allergies vanished, digestive issues resolved, and I experienced holistic healing through this spiritual practice. Driven by my passion for wellness, I embarked on my first Yoga Teacher Training in Kundalini Yoga.
My quest for knowledge led me to Peru, where I explored how Eastern philosophies address substance misuse and integrate these teachings into my therapeutic approach.
I proudly opened MYTYOGA studio, a space dedicated to yoga, mindfulness, and holistic healing.
I celebrated the addition of two furry companions, Luna and Diesel, my beloved huskies, who enrich my life and self-care practice.
MYTYOGA was recognized as a Yoga Teacher Training school by the Yoga Alliance. I developed a comprehensive 200-hour Classical Yoga Teacher Training and Self-Realization program, guided by my mentor, Erin Byron.
With the support of my coach, I completed my first half Ironman, embracing physical challenges that have contributed to my overall well-being and self-care journey.
I made the bold decision to leave my government job and immerse myself in Classical Yoga studies at the Yoga Institute in Mumbai, India, deepening my understanding of holistic wellness.
I graduated from Athabasca University with a Master's in Counselling - Counselling Psychology, becoming a Registered Psychotherapist dedicated to helping individuals navigate their mental health journeys.
I completed Dr. Gabor Maté and Sat Dharam Kaur ND's Compassionate Inquiry program, enhancing my skills in trauma-informed care. I began facilitating and mentoring others while serving as their Executive Officer in 2021.
I embarked on my Doctorate in Counselling and Psychotherapy program at Yorkville University, furthering my expertise in mental health care.
As an International Yoga Teacher, I had the privilege of teaching the Beyond Addiction Program with Sat Dharam Kaur, ND and Priya Duggal, ND, in Amritsar, India, integrating my knowledge of addiction recovery into my practice.
I embraced my identity as a Métis woman, recognizing that learning about myself is a profound gift that enriches my therapeutic approach.
After collaborating with Shäwthän Näzhì - Healing with the Land Society for a year to develop their Recovery Support Program for Yukon First Nation citizens, I relocated to the Yukon to assist in launching this vital program.
I proudly completed my Doctorate in Counselling and Psychotherapy! This advanced training empowers me to integrate evidence-based practices into my work, ensuring that my clients receive the highest quality of care.
