UNDERSTANDING THE PAIN BENEATH THE PATTERN

You may find yourself:

  • Using alcohol, cannabis, gambling, food, pornography, shopping, or other behaviours to cope 
  • Feeling caught in cycles you have tried repeatedly to change 
  • Turning to substances or behaviours when stressed, overwhelmed, lonely, or anxious 
  • Feeling shame, guilt, or frustration about your habits 
  • Hiding parts of your struggle from others

Many people struggling with addiction are not lacking motivation or discipline. Often, addictive behaviours develop as ways of coping with emotional pain, stress, trauma, or unmet needs.

WHAT ADDICTION CAN LOOK LIKE

Addiction is not always obvious. It can show up as:

  • Difficulty stopping once you start 
  • Cravings or urges that feel overwhelming 
  • Using substances or behaviours to escape difficult emotions 
  • Relationship conflict 
  • Increased anxiety, depression, or emotional overwhelm 
  • Feelings of shame or self-criticism 
  • Repeated promises to yourself that things will be different 
  • Feeling stuck between wanting change and fearing it 


Sometimes the behaviour itself is not the problem. It may be the solution your nervous system found to survive difficult experiences.

MY APPROACH

I offer a compassionate, trauma-informed approach that combines somatic psychotherapy, mindfulness, Compassionate Inquiry®, and person-centred therapy.


Rather than focusing solely on stopping a behaviour, we explore the underlying experiences, emotions, beliefs, and nervous system patterns that may be driving it.


Together, we work to understand what the addiction has been helping you manage, while developing healthier ways to meet those needs and reconnect with yourself.


Healing becomes possible when we move beyond shame and approach our struggles with curiosity, compassion, and understanding.
