Person-Centered Therapy in Ontario

An expansive mountain landscape representing perspective and possibility.

Find Healing Through Person-Centered Therapy

Healing doesn't begin by trying to become someone different. It begins when you feel genuinely seen, heard, and accepted exactly as you are.

Person-Centered Therapy is a compassionate approach that trusts your capacity for growth and healing. You deserve a space where your experiences are honoured, where you don't have to explain everything perfectly, and where healing can unfold at a pace that feels right for you.

At MYTyoga, I integrate Person-Centered Therapy with trauma-informed psychotherapy, mindfulness, nervous system awareness, and somatic approaches to support adults across Ontario experiencing anxiety, trauma, depression, grief, addiction, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, and life transitions.

Virtual psychotherapy is available across Ontario.

Healing Begins with Being Truly Heard

There are moments in life when it feels like you've lost connection with yourself. You may find yourself constantly putting others first, questioning your own feelings, or feeling uncertain about who you are beneath the expectations, responsibilities, and roles you've carried for so long.

Person-Centered Therapy offers a different way forward.

In therapy, you don't have to have all the answers. You don't have to explain everything perfectly or worry about being judged. Together, we'll create a compassionate space where your experiences are honoured, and healing unfolds at a pace that feels right for you.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, trauma, depression, grief, life transitions, relationship challenges, emotional overwhelm, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, Person-Centered Therapy provides a foundation for exploring who you are with greater clarity, self-compassion, and confidence.

As your understanding of yourself deepens, meaningful change often follows naturally—not because someone tells you who to become, but because you begin reconnecting with who you have always been.

The relationship you build with yourself becomes stronger when you feel safe enough to be fully yourself.

— Michelle Peddle, RP, DCP

What Is Person-Centered Therapy?

Person-Centered Therapy is a compassionate, humanistic approach to psychotherapy that holds that you already possess the capacity for growth, healing, and reconnection with yourself.

At its heart, Person-Centered Therapy is about creating a relationship where you feel safe to be yourself. You don't have to perform, explain everything perfectly, or have all the answers. Therapy becomes a place where you can slow down, feel heard, and reconnect with your own inner wisdom.

You remain the expert on your own life. My role is to offer compassionate guidance, thoughtful reflection, and a space where you can better understand yourself.

As you begin feeling genuinely seen and accepted, it often becomes easier to understand your emotions, trust yourself, and move toward lasting change that feels authentic to who you are.

How Person-Centered Therapy Supports Healing

Healing begins when you feel safe enough to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences without fear of judgement.

Person-Centered Therapy creates a therapeutic relationship built on empathy, acceptance, and authenticity. Rather than telling you who you should be, I support you in discovering what feels true for you.

Person-Centered Therapy can support:

  • Anxiety and chronic stress
  • Depression
  • Trauma
  • Grief and loss
  • Relationship challenges
  • Life transitions
  • Burnout
  • Low self-esteem
  • Feeling disconnected from yourself

WHAT CLIENTS OFTEN EXPERIENCE

Beginning therapy can feel uncertain, especially if you've spent years putting your own needs aside or feeling like you have to manage everything on your own.

While every person's experience is unique, many clients begin to move forward with greater confidence as therapy progresses, including:

  • Greater self-awareness and self-compassion
  • Increased confidence in making decisions
  • Healthier boundaries in relationships
  • Less self-criticism and shame
  • A stronger connection to their values
  • Improved emotional resilience
  • Feeling more grounded during difficult moments
  • A renewed sense of hope and direction

Person-Centered Therapy isn't about changing who you are. It's about creating the space to understand yourself more deeply and move forward in a way that feels authentic to you.

Michelle's Reflections

One of the things I appreciate most about Person-Centered Therapy is that it reminds us we don't need to have all the answers before we begin. So many people come to therapy believing they need to explain everything perfectly or know exactly what they want to work on. The reality is, healing often begins with simply showing up.

I don't believe my role is to tell you who you should become. Instead, I strive to create a space where you feel genuinely heard, respected, and accepted. From there, we can become curious together about your experiences, your strengths, and what feels most meaningful to you.

I've found that when people feel safe enough to be themselves, they often discover they already hold many of the answers they're searching for. Sometimes, they simply need someone to walk alongside them as they reconnect with that inner wisdom.

You don't have to have all the answers You simply need a place where it's safe to begin.

Person-Centered Therapy Questions & Answers

What is Person-Centered Therapy?

Person-Centered Therapy is a compassionate approach to psychotherapy that focuses on creating a safe, supportive relationship where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences without judgement. It recognizes your capacity for growth and healing while helping you reconnect with your strengths and inner wisdom.

How is Person-Centered Therapy different from other types of therapy?

Rather than focusing on advice or directing the conversation, Person-Centered Therapy emphasizes empathy, authenticity, and acceptance. You remain the expert on your own life while your therapist provides guidance, support, and a safe space for self-exploration.

What can Person-Centered Therapy help with?

Person-Centered Therapy can support anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, stress, burnout, life transitions, low self-esteem, and feeling disconnected from yourself or your purpose.

Is Person-Centered Therapy trauma-informed?

Yes. At MYTyoga, Person-Centered Therapy is integrated within a trauma-informed approach that recognizes how past experiences can influence emotions, relationships, and the nervous system while creating a safe environment for healing.

Is Person-Centered Therapy available virtually across Ontario?

Yes. I provide secure virtual psychotherapy for adults throughout Ontario, allowing you to access compassionate, person-centered care from the comfort and privacy of your own home.

How do I know if Person-Centered Therapy is right for me?

If you're looking for a compassionate, collaborative approach where you feel genuinely heard, respected, and supported, Person-Centered Therapy may be a good fit. Together, we'll explore your goals and determine an approach that best supports your unique needs.

How This Approach Can Support You

Person-Centered Therapy offers a compassionate space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences without judgement. Together, we'll work at a pace that feels right for you, building greater self-awareness, confidence, and connection along the way.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, therapy can help you better understand your experiences and feel more like yourself again.

You don't have to know exactly where to begin. We'll start with where you are today and discover the path forward together.

OTHER APPROACHES I INTEGRATE

Every person brings a unique story, set of experiences, and way of moving through the world. While Person-Centered Therapy provides the foundation of our work together, I also integrate other evidence-informed approaches to meet your individual needs and goals.

Depending on your experiences, our work may also incorporate:

  • Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy to help create safety, understanding, and healing after difficult life experiences.
  • Compassionate Inquiry® to gently explore the deeper patterns, beliefs, and emotions that may be contributing to your current struggles.
  • Somatic Therapy to increase awareness of the mind-body connection and support nervous system regulation.
  • Mindfulness-Based Approaches to help you develop greater presence, self-awareness, and emotional resilience.
  • Yoga Therapy Principles, when appropriate, support the connection between physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.

Together, we'll create an approach that feels collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to your unique journey.

You Don't Have to Know the Answers Yet

You don't need to arrive with a clear plan or know exactly what you're hoping to change before beginning therapy.

Person-Centered Therapy begins with who you are today, not who you think you should be.

Together, we'll create a space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences with compassion, openness, and without judgement.

Healing doesn't happen by having all the answers. It begins by feeling safe enough to ask the questions, discover what matters to you, and trust that meaningful change can unfold one step at a time.
